The Oliphant, and boating in general

If anybody recognizes this quote, please tell me where it came from! It was in a historical novel I think, one that I read a long time ago. Somehow I inadvertently memorized this poem (at least this bit of the beginning of the poem) and have never forgotten it, though decades have passed...
O, a fine tall ship was the Oliphant
As e'er sailed the seas.
She slipped downchannel apast Ushant
Bound for the East Indies.
