Is moderation censorship?

Well... um... yes, of course it is. The term moderation doesn't carry the same negative emotional baggage as the term censorship, and the purpose is different, but the terms are synonymous... unless you're an ancient Roman... in which case you probably wouldn't be on on the Net anyway. This question arose on mensa.talk.misc when I objected to a statement in the FAQ which was part of the answer to the question Isn't moderation censorship?. The answer began with the statement that Only governments censor, and that's untrue in modern English, and that was my point. The first reply to my objection, and many subsequent posts in that thread, dealt not with that point, but with the question of whether moderation is censorship.

Oh, well, enough is enough.
