Tao Te Ching

Tao Te Ching, by Lao Tzu

1

The way that can be described is not the eternal Way.
The name that can be named is not the eternal Name.

Naming is the source of all particular things.

Substance and Form arise from the same source.
This source is called Darkness.

Darkness within darkness.
The gate to all understanding.

2

When some things are called beautiful, others will be called ugly.
When some things are called good, others will be called bad.

Being and nonbeing create each other.
Difficult and easy support each other.
Long and short define each other.
High and low depend upon each other.
Before and after follow each other.

Therefore the master acts without acting.
Things arise and the master lets them come.
Things disappear and the master lets them go.

When the work is done, the master forgets it.

41

When an average man hears about the Tao, he half believes it, half doubts it.
When a superior man hears about the Tao, he embraces it.
When a sage hears about the Tao, he laughs out loud.
If he did not laugh, it would not be the Tao.

(Someday I'll finish this. Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe it's done already.)
