Finding myself to exist in the world,
I believe I shall,
in some shape or other,
always exist.

Norde de Bervalo estas la lando Nordegio, kaj en ĝia plej norda provinco troviĝas izolita montaro. Tie instaliĝis monaĥejo (simile kiel en greka regiono Meteroj) fiksita flanke de krutega monto. Ĝi tute ne estas alirebla per normalaj rimedoj: la ununura maniero estas uzi specon de kordo kiun supren- kaj malsupren-tiras la monaĥoj.

Unu tagon Kruko vizitas la regionon, kaj deziras vidi la monaĥejon. Do, li eniras la korbon, kaj la monaĥoj ektiras. Li multe ĝuas la plezuregon kvazaŭ flugi en la mezo de la ĉielo, inter rokegoj kaj montopintoj, kaj sentas kapturniĝon kvazaŭ li estus fuminta ion krom tabako.... Pensante pri kanabo, li iom pli atente rigardas la kordon kiu estas lia sola ligo kun la vivo. Li subite rimarkas ke la kordo estas tre malnova, kaj komencas jam iom disfadeniĝi.

Atinginte la supron, Kruko demandas per tremanta voĉo:
"Ĉu vi ofte ŝanĝas la kordon?"

"Certe," respondas la ĉefmonaĥo.
"Ĉiufoje kiam ĝi rompiĝas."

Frau Müller zur Nachbarin: "Mein Sohn meditiert neuerdings oft den ganzen Tag. Ich weiß zwar nicht genau, was das ist, aber es ist ja immerhin besser als rumsitzen und nichts zu tun!"

"What do the lamas do?"
"They devote themselves, madam, to contemplation and to the pursuit of wisdom."
"But that isn't doing anything."
"Then, madam, they do nothing."
"I thought as much."

So this Zen monk walks up to a hotdog vendor. The vendor asks what he'd like to have, and the monk says Make me one with everything.

The vendor hands the hotdog to the monk and says "That'll be two dollars.". The monk hands a five to the vendor, who places the five in his cash register and closes the drawer. The monk asks "What about my change?", and the vendor replies Change must come from within.

We were close to a path and every time someone came past he had stopped working and asked in a loud voice How are you doing this morning? Almost everyone had answered with Fine, and how are you? except Edgar who had mumbled something, taken off his fur cap, pulled it inside out and put it on again.

One can behave in a normal fashion, and one can behave in a crazy fashion. The Zen masters and the Zen disciples whom we meet in literature always choose the crazy way. They ask each other mad questions, they beat each other up, and they laugh a lot. But only the book people behave that way. Zen men behave like most sane men... But... How are you this morning? is a standard question, a form without much meaning, or depth. But the question can be quite deep.

Tri sanktuloj kuŝas sub la paradiza pomujo. Subite, el malplena spaco, aperas iu homo kaj komencas avide manĝegi pomojn. La sanktuloj senkomprene demandas: "Kien vi rapidas? Vi ja havas la tutan eternon por tion fari!" Respondis la homo: "Estas vi, kiu havas la eternon. Sed min oni tuj denove veturigos al la reanimadejo!"

En bufedejo. Aĉetanto al vendistino:
- Teon kun sukero!
- Jen, bonvolu! Bonan apetiton!
Alia aĉetanto:
- Teon sen sukero!
- Jen, bonvolu! Bonan apetiton!
Tria aĉetanto:
- Teon kun sukero kaj sen sukero!
